What is the Glass City Pickleball Association?

The Glass City Pickleball Association (GCPA) is a dynamic organization dedicated to fostering the growth and excitement of pickleball in the Toledo area. With a mission to bring players of all skill levels together, the GCPA is launching a unique tournament series that combines fun, competition, and rewarding incentives.

Unlike traditional tournaments that award medals, the GCPA sets itself apart by offering cash prizes for the top eight finishers in the men's division, making the stakes higher and the competition fiercer. This initiative not only elevates the sport's visibility but also creates an inclusive environment where both seasoned athletes and newcomers can engage in thrilling matches and strive for recognition.

The GCPA’s tournament series is designed to cater to a wide range of players, ensuring everyone has a chance to compete against opponents of similar skill levels while also challenging the area’s top talent. By structuring the events to balance accessibility and competitiveness, the GCPA provides a platform for local players to test their skills, improve their game, and potentially earn a payout. This approach fosters a vibrant pickleball community, encouraging camaraderie and healthy rivalry.

Whether participants are aiming for the cash prizes or simply looking to enjoy a day of spirited play, the GCPA’s innovative tournament series promises to make pickleball a cornerstone of recreation and competition in the Glass City.

Questions & Answers

"Will DUPR be reported?"
No, this is not a DUPR event. Seeding will be used from the points each player earns during the Tournament series.

"So how about lower rated players facing top players?"
Think about it like the PPA, the Pro Tour of Pickleball. The top players have a DUPR above 7.0, while the lower ranked players are 5.5+. Expect the same thing with the GCPA, the top players may be 5.0+ while we hope the lower seeded teams will be 3.5+.

Pickleball players are used to the same old pool play DUPR tournaments, the GCPA aims to bring a different style to the area. The more teams that enter with various skill levels, the better the tournament will turn out for everyone.

Yes, your first match may be against tougher competition, but in the losers bracket you will have a chance to face similar rated teams. With the goal being to pay out at least 8 teams, the lower rated players can also compete for one of those spots!

If you are competitive, looking to get better, this system is just for you. You get to play better competition while also having a chance to work your way up in the seedings against similar competition.

"How many games are you guaranteed?"
Each team is guaranteed 4 games as the first round of the tournament will be games to 11, best 2 out of 3. The first round in the losers bracket will be the same. After that, games in the loser bracket will just be 1 game to 15, to help speed up the tournament.

Do I have to play with the same partner every tournament?
No, each tournament is separate. The points only determine the seeding as a team. Your individual points will combine with whatever partner you play with that specific tournament to determine your seeding. Players can play in one of them, or all of them. The only stipulation is you cannot enter the championships unless you play in at least 2 previous tournaments.
